DC1217 Diamond taper compound tooth
Video
The DC1217 is our core product, the DEC (Diamond Composite Tooth) tapered insert, manufactured using the same mature high-temperature, high-pressure (HTHP) sintering process as polycrystalline diamond composite (PDC) blanks. Composed of a metallurgically bonded polycrystalline diamond layer and a tungsten carbide matrix, it is an ideal upgrade replacement for traditional cemented carbide teeth. Designed specifically for PDC drill bits and down-the-hole (DTH) drills, this model is available in two standard finished sizes suitable for mainstream drill bit assemblies worldwide. It combines high impact toughness with excellent wear resistance to meet the needs of various medium-load drilling operations in industries such as oil and gas, mining, and geothermal. Its streamlined tapered profile and polished dome surface provide stable self-sharpening cutting performance even under complex alternating formation loads.

Applicable Strata
DC1217 is optimized for soft to medium-hard formations with drillability grade 3–6, including loose-medium compact sandstone, shale, mudstone, compact limestone, weathered basalt, moderately fractured granite, mixed gravel bed, shallow tight hydrocarbon reservoir and weathered bedrock for shallow geothermal wells; also applicable for interbedded alternating soft-hard composite strata commonly seen in civil engineering exploratory drilling.
Core Product Advantages
Outstanding Abrasion Resistance
Dense polycrystalline diamond working layer realizes continuous self-sharpening during rock breaking, 3~5 times longer wear life than standard carbide inserts and avoids premature passivation & slipping on abrasive sand layers.
Superior Anti-impact Performance
Integrated HTHP metallurgical bonding eliminates delamination risk between diamond layer and carbide base, effectively resisting cyclic impact load to prevent tooth chipping or diamond peeling in fractured rock formations.
Two Standard Sizes for Wide Compatibility
Dual factory-standard dimension options perfectly fit most globally mainstream prefabricated PDC & DTH drill bit slots, minimizing extra machining cost for bit refurbishment.
Remarkable Lifespan Reduces Non-productive Time
Multiplied service life sharply lowers frequent tripping out for bit maintenance and cutter replacement, greatly improving overall site drilling productivity.
Excellent Multi-industry Versatility
Single DC1217 specification covers oil exploration, open-pit mining, geothermal development and foundation directional drilling to simplify clients’ spare parts inventory management.
Lower Total Operation Cost
Despite slightly higher unit price vs carbide alternatives, the extended service cycle cuts comprehensive cost on spare procurement, field labor and equipment downtime by 20%~35% for medium-depth drilling projects.
Precise Size Specifications
DC1217 is mass-produced in two standardized finished specifications: Version 1 has outer diameter 12.080mm, overall total height 17.000mm, dome spherical radius SR=4.8mm and fixed exposed working height of 7.5mm after bit press-fitting; Version 2 features diameter 12.140mm, total height 16.500mm, dome radius SR=4.4mm while keeping the same exposed height of 7.5mm; upon clients’ personalized bit groove design, we support fine-tuning on diameter, total height, dome radian and exposed height without altering the original tapered core structure for non-standard customization.
Material and Core Technology
Co-produced on our mature PDC composite sheet production line under strict ultra-high pressure & high-temperature sintering environment, proven by thousands of mass-production batches for stable bonding consistency between diamond and substrate.
Automated numerical control grinding processes the taper dome to strict dimensional tolerance, disperses concentrated breaking stress effectively and avoids localized tooth crack under irregular formation impact.
Optimized grading of synthetic diamond micropowder plus adjustable cobalt-content tungsten carbide base; medium-cobalt formula balances impact resistance and wear resistance perfectly to match DC1217’s medium-hard formation positioning.
Application Field
Oil & Gas Drilling
Suitable for shallow to medium-deep well operations on land. Works well in tight sandstone, interbedded strata and gravel-bearing formations. High temperature resistance avoids carbonization and delamination, reducing bit replacement and overall drilling cost.
Mining Drilling & Exploration
Ideal for mineral prospecting, tunnel drilling and mine water well projects. Perfect for high-abrasive hard rock such as granite and quartzite. Excellent impact resistance prevents edge chipping, serving longer life in fractured mining formations.
Geological Exploration & Sampling
High dimensional accuracy ensures stable drilling and regular borehole. Guarantees complete formation core sampling, fully meeting high-precision geological survey and resource exploration requirements.
Water Well & Infrastructure Engineering
Widely used in deep water wells, pile foundation drilling and construction projects. Efficient penetration in common rock layers, low wear and stable performance for long-time continuous site operation.
Universal Bit Matching
Compatible with mainstream PDC bits, core bits and drilling tools with good interchangeability. Custom sizes and chamfers are available to meet non-standard matching demands for different projects.
Customized Service
- Non-standard dimensional modification for special customized drill bit seats;
- Tooth profile customization: flat-top, thickened dome or reinforced taper design for ultra-abrasive/heavy-impact specific formations;

FAQ
Q: Can standard DC1217 directly replace original carbide teeth on existing drill bits?
A: Two standard DC1217 sizes match most universal carbide bit slots for direct replacement; non-standard bit grooves can be solved via our dimensional customization service.
Q: How to choose between 13mm and 16mm PDC cutter?
A: DC1217 is medium-size mainstream model for soft-medium hard mid-depth drilling; DC1219 is longer-height variant for deeper medium-hard rock; DC1924 is large-size heavy-duty insert exclusively for ultra-hard deep well & big-bore mining drilling.
Q: How should unused DC1217 be properly stored?
A: Keep original sealed package in cool, dry warehouse away from dampness and acid; long-term inventory can apply anti-rust oil treatment or select pre-coated anti-corrosion customized version.
Q: How much longer is DC1217’s service life than conventional carbide inserts?
A: 3~4x lifespan in limestone/shale mixed formation, 4~5x in quartz-bearing abrasive sandstone, subject to real-site rock property and drilling operation parameters.
Q: Lead time for standard stock and customized DC1217?
A: In-stock standard DC1217 can be dispatched within 48 working hours; customized products need 7–12 working days based on modification scope of dimension or tooth profile.
